Mistakes happen, even when you’ve got the best team on the job. When your people have had their heads and hands deep in a document, the mistakes simply stop standing out.
That’s when you need a fresh set of professional proofreading eyes to complete a final quality check.
That’s when you need me.
Proofreading is about quality control
Proofreading occurs in the very final stages of the production process. It’s usually reserved for a final draft and for content that has been approved. It’s a last quality check before you print or go live. It happens at a surface level and doesn’t ask for (or expect) big changes.
My proofreading services
I have a keen eye for obvious errors and inconsistencies that creep in no matter how many times you read and re-read your writing.
I proofread for:
- obvious errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and numbering
- inconsistent use of typefaces and heading styles
- major formatting errors
- anything distinct that goes against style guides.
When proofreading, I do not reword, shorten, simplify, or reorganise content. I can do these things, but they form part of an editing brief.
Proofreading doesn’t involve adding new content or extensive rewriting. That’s reserved for copywriting projects.
In addition, when proofreading I do not fact check names, dates, quotes, and references. This is outside the normal scope of an editing or copywriting brief too, so it would be an added extra on any project.
What I proofread
I proofread for businesses and governments who want to get noticed for good reasons, not for bad. For those who want to put their best foot forward and protect their reputation.
I proofread:
- corporate reports, annual reports, standards, and award entries
- websites, company profiles, and brochures
- educational resources, handbooks, and guides.
I don’t proofread academic submissions or manuscripts.
